I found this old article at PeaceRally.org. Click the image and you'll more easily read the words.
I doubt that Hitler copied his hand salute from the pre-1942 American salute. More likely, Hitler copied Mussolini's fascists, who in turn copied the Roman Empire's salute. In all likelihood, Americans were likewise copying the Romans.
Even so, the American Pledge of Allegiance's history is thought-provoking. Is there not something inherently fascistic about a Roman style pledge to a State?

Great post. One comment though: The "ancient Roman salute" is a myth that has been debunked. That the roman salute did not exist, is part of the basis for concluding that the pledge of Allegiance was the origin of the nazi salute, as shown in the discoveries of the historian Dr. Rex Curry (author of "Pledge of Allegiance Secrets").
I'd like the pledge better if a few words were changed; ...one nation, under pure proportional representation...(instead of "under God")
Blogging on the same subject at Libertariantranslator brought me here. Bellamy, Howells and London doubtless did more to spread national socialism than anyone except possibly Henry Ford. The Swastika on the cover of Equality, the religious fervor in the 1920 NSDAP platform and the Enabling Act speech to the Reichstag in 1933 eliminate all doubt as to the origins of that variant of communo-fascist totalitarianism. I will definitely follow this at Expatriotas. Many thanks, and thanks for helping awaken Woodstock nation to the existence of an anti-aggression party in existence since 1971.
